As a Co-Founder and President, I have received several suggestions to invite Hidroelectrica to join ARIR. Now, with the successful listing of the company on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, after one of the largest IPOs in the world, Hidroelectrica, a leader in electricity production, is not only the largest Romanian company and recently the largest listed company but also a founding member of ARIR. Since 2018, when we were preparing the establishment of the Romanian Investor Relations Association, we invited Hidroelectrica, and the company accepted, to be among the founding members of the association that promotes the concept of Investor Relations in Romania. At the time of ARIR’s founding in 2018, Hidroelectrica was not yet listed, but they shared our mission and desired to be close to the community in order to understand and adopt best practices in transparency and corporate governance. Since then, the company has actively participated in meetings with international investors and supported professional presentations with a dedicated team.
It is no surprise to those who have learned that H2O (Hidroelectrica’s stock symbol) has been a part of the association for 5 years and actively participated in our initiatives, including professional development programs.
In addition to Hidroelectrica, the list of founding members of ARIR include the seller of H2O shares, Fondul Proprietatea, represented by Franklin Templeton, and the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
It is worth mentioning that for newly listed companies, the VEKTOR indicator by ARIR can be obtained voluntarily within the first 12 months or becomes mandatory after the 12-month period from the listing date. Every company listed on the Regulated Market receives the evaluation result from ARIR, along with the VEKTOR indicator (ranging from 0 to 10), available on the company’s page on the Bucharest Stock Exchange platform.
Returning to the listing of Hidroelectrica, it confirms the development of the local capital market, now surpassing the markets in the region in terms of size. It also opens up opportunities for all listed companies to attract the attention of new institutional and individual investors who entered the capital market through the IPO. Certainly, no company intending to list in the near future, regardless of its size, should worry about the transaction size when it comes to the Bucharest Stock Exchange. The invitation remains open to companies such as Bitdefender, eMag, or Dedeman, as they are among the companies most frequently mentioned by local investors on the shortlist of expected national champions to be listed.
