With a history of more than 100 years, S.N.G.N. ROMGAZ S.A. (ROMGAZ) has a vast experience in the field of natural gas exploration and production, becoming one of the largest producers and main suppliers of natural gas in Romania.

ROMGAZ is a company managed in a one-tier system, by a Board of Directors composed of seven (7) members, elected by the Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders.

The registered office of ROMGAZ (headquarters) is located in Medias, the company consisting of 7 established branches. Both the headquarters and the branches were established based on the principle of specific ongoing activities and territoriality (natural gas production branches). The majority stakeholder of the company is the Romanian State, owning 70.0071% stake in the company’s share capital.

Romgaz’s main segments of activity are: geological exploration aiming to discover new gas fields, methane gas production by exploiting the deposits inside the company’s portfolio, supply and distribution of natural gas, special operations and well services, supply and electric power production.

As of April 1, 2018, S.N.G.N. ROMGAZ S.A. – Filiala de Inmagazinare Gaze Naturale Depogaz Ploiesti S.R.L. became operational, managing the natural gas underground storage activity. Therefore, according to the legal regulations in force, the storage activity is unbundled from S.N.G.N. ROMGAZ S.A. and performed by a storage operator, a subsidiary where ROMGAZ is sole associate.

According to specific concession agreements, at the moment ROMGAZ carries out petroleum operation for exploration-development-production in 8 blocks as sole titleholder with 100% participating interest and in 4 blocks as co-titleholder. As sole titleholder, the company operates in Romania more than 140 commercial fields located in Transylvania, Moldova, Muntenia and Oltenia, operated by Medias and Targu Mures branches.

Also, based on Joint Operating Agreements, ROMGAZ holds the quality of co-owner in 14 petroleum blocks, operated in association with Amromco Energy SRL (11), Raffles Energy (2) and Lukoil Overseas Atash B.V. (1). The blocks are located in the Moesica platform and Getic Depression, Moldova and the Black Sea.

In addition, throughout SIRCOSS and STTM branches, the company performs well workovers and recompletions, production tests and special well operations, transportation of goods and persons, specific technological transportation and maintenance activities for the benefit of the company and third parties.

In 2013, Romgaz extended its field of activity, becoming electricity producer and supplier, by taking over Iernut Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE Iernut). With an initial installed capacity of 800 MW, CTE Iernut, had at the time of its takeover, 6 energy groups, having 100/200 MW capacity each.

Following the investment works for this objective – “Development of CTE Iernut by building a thermal power plant with combined cycle gas turbines” – to ensure proper conditions for works at the related cooling system, as well as a result of non-compliance with environmental conditions, during 2019 – 2020 four energy groups were permanently withdrawn from operation. At the moment, CTE Iernut runs with two commercially licensed energy groups, with 300 MW total capacity. The classic power plant will remain in operation until the beginning of the commercial exploitation of the new power plant.
